FDA to Restrict Natural Products
Did you know that Senator John McCain is introducing a bill to the Senate that will end the natural products industry? Of course he doesn’t intend to do this, but it is a consequence of his intention to control the infusion of dangerous synthetic steroids into natural products. Some natural “strength building” products are being used as carriers to deliver hidden synthetic steroids so that athletes can have easy access to them for the purpose of building muscle mass. This bill is intended to specifically empower the FDA to remove these products from the market.
Well, as is usually the case, laws don’t stop criminals from doing what they are going to do. It simply gives law enforcement the jurisdiction to arrest them. Well this jurisdiction already exists without McCain’s bill. These synthetic steroid compounds simply need to be classified as drugs since they are not natural and they are synthesized. Then, existing drug laws allow the FDA to do its job and remove them from the market.
Unfortunately, provisions within McCain’s legislation will allow the FDA authority to remove virtually ANY natural product from the market. Of course the pharmaceutical companies will apply pressure on the FDA to use this provision to remove natural products that compete with their patent medicine offerings. The FDA has been wanting to control-out-of-existence natural products for decades. Mostly because of pressure from Big Pharma and the AMA who contend that these products don’t really work. Those of us who use them, know that is not universally the case.
As the law stands, natural product manufacturers have very little legal means for educating the consumer on how to use natural products to improve or regain their health. This is particularly troublesome in a time where more Americans seek to prevent illness and disease by utilizing the simple and safe plants of the Earth. Additional legislation that further reduces our ability to empower consumers with tools to protect their health would seem to go against the charter of the FDA and the best interest of the people whom the FDA was intended to protect.
If you enjoy maintaining your health with natural products, then it is certainly time to make your voice heard to Congress that you want less FDA restrictions and more consumer freedom. We Americans are not dumb. We can choose what we want to try for our medical needs. We want to reduce health care costs by handling our own medical problems and we want the freedom to choose for ourselves. Yet, we cannot do this if the providers of natural products are not free to explain how to use the products and offer them for sale. Most American can’t make herbal decoctions, don’t have the time to put herbs in capsules and don’t want to make salves and gels. That is why we pay companies to do this for us.
We would like the FDA to protect us from the Drug companies not restrict access to natural plant-based products. Let's tell Congress that.

Living with Restless Leg Syndrome
Restless legs or Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is more common in America than most people realize. The National Institute of Health (NIH) estimated that more than 12 million Americans experience RLS. That is about 1 in 30. If you consider that this condition is very subtle and is largely under-diagnosed, the actually number could be more like 50 million. The condition is characterized by the irresistible desire (ney, need) to move ones legs. It can also be your arms or your feet though. While it can happen when you are sedentary and awake, such as sitting on a couch or driving in a car, it is primarily noticeable at night when you are trying to go to sleep.
The experience can go well beyond simply being annoying to actually keeping you from falling asleep. In fact, if you do sleep through the problem, it can cause you to toss and turn so much that it disrupts your sleep to the point where you simply wake up the next day without feeling rested. We’ve all witnessed the fellow sitting on the bleachers who is shaking the whole row because he can’t keep his leg still. We’ve seen people who toss and turn all night and wake up feeling groggy and "needing" coffee to get their eyes open. But as is frequently the case, we fail to put the clues together and realize that we may have a simple problem like restless legs. In fact, poor sleep is usually ignored and treated with energy drinks and coffee.
"Well, why is it so important to know this?" you ask. The answer is quite simple. In order to know that you need to fix it. RLS may be disturbing your sleep, you may not even know it. It may have been doing this for years and you may be just used to poor quality sleep and feeling tired all the time. Now some of the more astute readers may say, "Yeah, but what good is it to know that I have it. They don’t even know what causes it?" While this is true, you may be surprised to find that there are solutions for this problem in the pharmaceutical world and the Herbal/Natural health-care world. A condition with an un-known cause is simply referred to as “Idiopathic”. This is just a clever word used by doctors to describe a condition that is "without a know cause". It keeps them from sounding foolish.
The two main pharmaceutical drugs being used to control restless legs must be taken every day and have some significant side-effects that I suspect you will want to avoid. If you sometimes find your knee shaking while sitting for a while, or your partner tells you that you were tossing and turning all night, you may have RLS. You could go for a $4000 sleep study that will require you sleeping in a clinic for a few nights. Or, you could simply try some Leg Relaxer by Nature’s Rite. Simply roll it on your legs, let it dry and go to sleep. Of course it works during the day too. If this works for you, then you’ve saved $4000, 2 nights away from home and for a mere pittance, you’ve found a way to achieve better sleep. Now that's a deal.
So if you or someone you know is always "shaking the bench" with their leg, you might bring it to their attention and suggest that they try Leg Relaxer. It's a simple and easy way to solve the problem. Who knows, it may even change your life.
